POSITION

The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position.  This position is a full-time (12 months), non-tenure leading appointment with a 1.00% FTE in research.  It is established for a period of one to three years and the continuation of this position beyond one year is contingent upon the availability of grant funding and satisfactory accomplishments of assigned duties.  The incumbent will have annual evaluations carried out with the supervisor and unit administrator.  This full-time position will contribute to the research missions of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the reporting responsibilities and program development are to the supervisor, VBMS Department Head and appropriate Deans and Directors of IANR. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of this position are related to work on the evolution and regulation of autoreactive T cell immune responses in rodent models of autoimmunity.  The incumbent is expected to be self-motivated and be able to develop and conduct research studies independently.  Participation as a team member with students and technical staff in the laboratory of supervisor is essential and the incumbent is encouraged to take primary initiative and leadership in writing grants.  The incumbent is expected to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, university publications and other publications, as appropriate.  Standard molecular biology techniques and cell culture procedures including DNA cloning, southern, northern and western blots, protein expression and purification, flow cytometry, animal handling and in vivo experience are necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate must have a PhD or MD/DVM, or equivalent and a strong background and experience in molecular biology and immonology is a plus.

 

SALARY RANK & BENEFITS

Salary is commensurate with accomplishments and experience.  UNL makes available group life, disability and health insurance with family coverage at minimal costs to the employee.  Postdoctoral Research Associates are not regular employees and do not qualify for retirement benefits; if appointed at 0.5 FTE or greater, however, they are eligible for NUFlex benefits.  Also, the University has an excellent vacation and sick leave package that is place.
