The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences would like to welcome Drs. Manuel Cortinas and Patricia Sollars.


Dr. Sollars joined the faculty in August 2008 as an Associate Professor and will teach neurobiology and provide research for the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. She has been a Research Assistant Professor of Neuroscience in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and a research assistant professor for the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology at Colorado State University.  She is a member of the Society for Neuroscience and the Sleep Research Society. Dr. Sollars received her Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in Neuroscience.
 

Dr. M. Roberto Cortinas joins the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Veterinary and Medical Parasitology/Entomology. He will divide his time between teaching Veterinary Parasitology for the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine and teaching in the Entomology department. He will also provide research in the area of arthropod-focused Parasitology for the Department of Entomology. Dr. Cortinas came to us from University of Minnesota-Twin Cities where he was a senior scientist ad post-doctoral associate. He has a degree in Chemistry and Ecology, Evolution and Animal Behavior. He is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and received his Ph.D. in Veterinary Pathobiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
