Fifteen high school students attended the third annual Veterinary Science camp held June 13 – 17. Our camp was one of 9 camps offered, which are hosted by Nebraska 4-H Youth Development and faculty and staff members in the various camp subject areas. Camp sessions are intended to offer career exploration opportunities for high school students. Veterinary Science camp sessions for the following subject area were provided by SVMBS faculty and staff: “The Art of Veterinary Medicine,” veterinary anatomy, large animal veterinary medicine, parasitology, veterinary surgery, veterinary histology, veterinary toxicology and veterinary bacteriology. A first this year, our campers taught what they learned about physical examinations of animals to twenty two campers attending the Oxbow Junior Veterinarian (sic) Camp. The camp culminated with the capstone event where our campers demonstrated to parents, family and friends, some of the things about veterinary medicine they learned during the week-long camp.
SVMBS faculty, staff, and students participating in the event included: Dr. Brad Jones, Dr. Renee McFee, Amber Andelt, Matt Vipond, Dr. John Kammermann, Chelsea Paul, Dr. Richard Randle, Dr. Douglas Hostetler, Dr. Todd Georgi, Debra Royal, Dana Newtson, Jessica Clowser, and Patricia Jarecke. The camp was coordinated by Dr. Michael Carlson.
